  • Women Leading the Way: Providing Solutions for a Sustainable Future

About WLCA

Founded in 2021 ahead of the UNFCCC COP26 Summit in Glasgow, Scotland, Women Leaders for Climate Action (WLCA) is a women-led, impact-driven organization dedicated to empowering African women in climate action. WLCA mobilizes voices, investments, and knowledge to strengthen women's leadership and enterprises in the fight against climate change. We advocate for climate finance access, ecosystem restoration, and sustainable livelihoods, with a strong focus on supporting Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) and rural communities most affected by climate change.  With a strong membership comprising leaders from both the public and private actors, WLCA’s activities are implemented by a dedicated secretariat, its members and overseen by our Board members.

Our Vision

A sustainable and equitable future where women are at the forefront of creating resilient businesses, communities and ecosystems that last.

Our Mission

We strive to build a sustainable future where every woman and every girl has the capacity, resources and opportunities to thrive amidst environmental challenges

Key Strategic Plan Pillars

WLCA has established a set of strategic Pillars designed to drive transformative change while aligning with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 13 on Climate Action. These pillars will guide WLCA’s efforts in strengthening women-led climate solutions, building resilient ecosystems, and fostering sustainability leadership.

Core Values and Principles

WLCA’s commitment to climate action is rooted in core values that define its approach to its mission.  These values spell out “GREEN”, representing our dedication to creating a greener, more sustainable future with women at the forefront of building climate resilience and sustainable opportunities and option for communities most at risk from climate change.

Growth

We believe in the continuous empowerment of women through learning, capacity-building, and deliberate innovation in sustainable practices. By equipping women with knowledge and skills, we strengthen their ability to adapt, lead, and drive climate resilient solutions

Resilience

We work to build robust systems and adaptive strategies that enable women and communities to withstand environmental shocks, recover effectively, and thrive in a changing climate.

Excellence

We are committed to delivering impactful, evidence-based solutions that showcase the power of women-led climate action and contribute meaningfully to national and global climate goals.

Equity

We champion fair and inclusive access to climate resources, finance, and opportunities for women. Addressing gender disparities in climate action is at the heart of our work, ensuring that women are not just participants but leaders in shaping a sustainable future.

Networks

We cultivate strong partnerships with women, communities, policymakers, and organizations that share our vision. Through collective action we drive impact as we amplify climate solutions, empower women leaders, and drive meaningful change at local, national, and global levels.
